Variety Theatre 'Light the Lights' Program to Feature Several Webster St. Louis Community Members

The Variety Theatres of St. Louis is streaming “Light the Lights," a virtual musical featuring performances, interviews and magical Variety Theatre moments Nov. 16-19. Among those interviewed for this program was Chancellor Stroble. Numerous Webster students, alumni and designers and directors are also featured in the one-hour film. All funds raised will go to Variety Theatre's Performing Arts Fund to support Variety Kids in our inclusive Performing Arts program that teaches new skills, builds confidence and introduces lifelong friends.

[Video] Webster Speaks on The Journey to Becoming an Antiracist

November 17, 2020

White allyship is vital to fighting racism against Black people. It is not a matter of embracing those who look different; being an antiracist involves hard, daily, deliberate work. Four white social justice activists from the St. Louis area addressed this issue in the tenth edition of Webster Speaks: Dialogues on RACE, EQUITY and INCLUSION on Nov. 11. This marks the first time the Zoom Livestream show, which debuted July 8, featured white panelists.

Community advocate Devon Whitmore from DEAF Inc will be giving the workshop on Communication During COVID-19. Whitmore will provide attendees with a handful of experiences he has faced as a person with a hearing loss and experiences he has witnessed personally and professionally.

Webster University and Dance the Vote are pleased to announce the winners of the first “Make Good Trouble: Why John Lewis Inspires Me to Vote” contest for college students throughout the United States. The competition received entries from students studying throughout Missouri and other states, including New York and Alabama. The submissions have included video, painting, collage, personal testimony, illustrated essay, dance, and spoken word.

Diversity & Inclusion 2021 Conference Request for Proposals

The 2021 Webster University Diversity and Inclusion conference will be held virtually Feb. 23-25. Past conferences have featured various learning formats, including lectures, panel discussions, hands-on learning experiences and performances. The purpose of the Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit proposals for professional speakers for the upcoming Diversity and Inclusion Conference. RFPs are due by email on Friday, Nov. 20, at 4:30 p.m.

Uzbekistan Alumnus Awarded National Medal for Volunteer Work During Pandemic

October 14, 2020

Fazliddin Bakhromov, who earned his MBA from Webster in Tashkent, and other members of the COVIDarnost volunteer group were recognized for their volunteerism during the pandemic in Uzbekistan, receiving medals on Oct. 10 in Tashkent. Award ceremonies presenting this medal were held not only in the capital, but in all regional centers across Uzbekistan. Bakhromov’s volunteer work resulted in a coordinating center that helped supply food and other essential items to those in need.

Ghana Hosts Public Lecture on 2020 Elections in Ghana, USA

Webster Ghana took its popular panel event online on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The webinar explored the key axes along which voters in both nations are likely to make decisions as Americans and Ghanaians head to the polls in November and December, respectively. From the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, economic stagnation, racial tensions and concerns of voter suppressions, many interesting yet contentious topics were discussed.

The event featured a presentation and mini performances by Beijing opera actress Chenfu Zhu.
