Webster World Report on Election Aftermath, 'Anti-Racist' Discussion Excerpts

The 16th edition of the Webster World Report, the discussion linking Webster University’s global operations during this year of crises, features in-depth discussions with Professors Bill Hall and Gwyneth Williams, two of the University’s experts on political science, and a student about how they see the presidential election in the United States and what they think of the aftermath. The news segment of the program includes excerpts from the recent Webster Speaks program entitled “My Journey Toward Becoming an Anti-Racist.”

A Conversation with Academy Award-winning Screenwriter Jin-won Han

On Nov. 17, the School of Communication Film, Television and Video Production program welcomed scriptwriting writer Jin-won Han, of the winning 92nd Academy Award Best Picture film "Parasite." This virtual exchange reached an audience of over 100 Webster students, faculty and staff. For his work on "Parasite," Han received much critical appraisal and recognition, including an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

[Video] 'You're Being Lied To' Media Literacy Discussion

The Oct. 26 online conversation with KMOX radio personality Megan Lynch and media literacy expert and School of Communications professor Julie Smith is available to view. Part of Media Literacy Week, the discussion centered on how much misinformation is being spread through social media and websites, and how regular viewers can separate the lies from the truth. During the hour-long discussion, Smith and Lynch also shared ways that people can determine if a rumor or story is true or fake.

Variety Theatre 'Light the Lights' Program to Feature Several Webster St. Louis Community Members

The Variety Theatres of St. Louis is streaming “Light the Lights," a virtual musical featuring performances, interviews and magical Variety Theatre moments Nov. 16-19. Among those interviewed for this program was Chancellor Stroble. Numerous Webster students, alumni and designers and directors are also featured in the one-hour film. All funds raised will go to Variety Theatre's Performing Arts Fund to support Variety Kids in our inclusive Performing Arts program that teaches new skills, builds confidence and introduces lifelong friends.

[Video] Webster Speaks on The Journey to Becoming an Antiracist

November 17, 2020

White allyship is vital to fighting racism against Black people. It is not a matter of embracing those who look different; being an antiracist involves hard, daily, deliberate work. Four white social justice activists from the St. Louis area addressed this issue in the tenth edition of Webster Speaks: Dialogues on RACE, EQUITY and INCLUSION on Nov. 11. This marks the first time the Zoom Livestream show, which debuted July 8, featured white panelists.

The School of Communications Careers Week was a success with attendance exceeding 300 students, faculty and staff. The theme was "Changing the Way We Work…Navigating Your Career in Communications…Virtually!" This year's Careers Week addressed the current issue of the world of work going virtual. The events aimed at educating and assisting students on how to navigate and launch their careers in the current virtual environment.

The 2021 Teaching Festival will occur almost one year after faculty and students experienced extreme disruptions created by the global coronavirus pandemic.
